If you enjoy working outside and love growing things, vegetable production apprenticeship could be for you. You’ll master soil management, irrigation, machinery, pest and disease identification and management, and produce quality management and market requirements.

At the end of this programme you will be able to:

  • Manage health and safety related to tractor and ATV use
  • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of agrichemical use and apply agrichemicals using motorised equipment
  • Operate specialist machinery
  • Understands quality control and the market requirements for a crop
  • Supervise teams undertaking vegetable production activities
  • Manage a hydroponic system in indoor vegetable production
  • Store and treat crops to maximise quality to the buyer
  • Prepare soil and sow or plant crops on a field scale
  • Manage the irrigation system
  • Cultivate with a tractor using attached implements
  • Identify the pests and diseases that affect the vegetable crops you are growing
  • Control weeds in a vegetable production operation.

Entry Requirements

It is recommended that candidates complete National Certificate in Horticulture (Intermediate) Level 3 before entering this course.


*If Level 3 certificate in Horticulture has been completed the duration of this course will only be 6 months.
