At the end of this programme you will be able to:

  • Manage health and safety related to tractor and ATV use
  • Recoginse the pests and diseases that affect grapes and deomonstrate knowledge of integrated pest management programmes
  • Plan a weed control programme
  • Monitor levels of pests and diseases and beneficial organisms
  • Train and prune vines to maximise the crop
  • Use vineyard equipmet, spray equipment and drive tractors
  • Monitor grape maturity
  • Understand grapevine physiology
  • Supervise teams to undertake vineyard activities
  • Carry out basic canopy and trellis management
  • Demonstrate knowledge of frosts and frost protection
  • Operate specialist vineyard machinery
  • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of agrichemical use and apply agrichemicals using motorised equipment.

Entry Requirements

It is recommended that candidates complete National Certificate in Horticulture (Intermediate) Level 3 before entering this course.
