Summary
This programme sets learners up with the foundational knowledge and skills required to be safe on-farm and confidently undertake their role. It’s a great first step before an apprenticeship.
Learning outcomes
Topics include:
- safe handling of livestock and behaviours
- assisting with feeding
- assisting during calving and/or lambing
- fencing (installation and maintenance)
- planting and caring of trees and shrubs
- working a farm dog
- understanding of beehives and the basic use of equipment.
Valuable additions to the programme include the safe handling of agri-chemicals and the option to add chainsaw/vehicle skills so learners can operate vehicles confidently and safely. These include:
